The underground of soul music is so gracious to provide its listeners with FREE music. I am torn about my feelings toward that because we deserve compensation for the “beautiful-created” (sorry Jesse Boykins for the bite lol). But to get the world to listen and hear beyond the bull$%*&, sometimes this is what you have to do. Now that I am off the soap box, Mr. Mark de Clive Lowe created this lovely track that Rahel is featured upon. Dope production meets dope vocals. Lovely, Lovely, Lovely!!!!!! I remember her from the Eric Lau project a few years ago. London is killin em with soul… slowly. Please rest your ears……. here
Here goes a lil sumthin sumthin that the sneaky hands of the internet just “happen” to find. The soul, funk, hip hop, brown suga-croona D’ANGELO has blessed us with this track “1000 Deaths“! No clear record of if its recent or recorded years ago, but its good to know he still got it. I’m sure his come back would be well received just as MAXWELL was (MAXWELL won 2 Grammys last night, WHEWWWWWW WHEEWWW). WE MISS YOU D………
For anyone that may not be aware of this cat, Eric Lau is a producer hailing from the UK with Dilla elements and jazzy-soul-futuristics. I remember peeping him on Myspace back when Myspace was runnin thangs and listening to the tracks from his “New Territories” LP. Well now he is back and giving us a taste of what is to come on his next one. “Kilawatt V2 EP” doesn’t disappoint with tracks featuring Muhsinah and Kaidi Tatham. And just in case you had to question if it did, he gives us a little taste of whats to come. Check it out at Bandcamp.com!
Back in 2002 when DWELE released “RIZE” , I think it was my official introduction to the underground world of soul. I thought I was cool for knowing about dope music that others weren’t aware of and being able to share it with them. Well like G.I. Joe says “knowing is half the battle”! With knowing BAMALoveSOUL, you will have the heads up on this collection Dwele’s Unreleased joints called “Keep RIZEing to the Top!” And the best part is it’s free! Enjoy
When most people think of Nashville, TN the first thing that comes to mind is Country Music. You know, your Elvis – Dolly- Ray Cyruses lol. However I know for a fact that the “Music City” has much more to offer. Being a resident there for about 10 years, I came across some of the most soulful kats in the scene. What the Nashville underground soul scene may not be in quantity it definitely is high ranking in quality.
Let me introduce you to RICHBROWN, consisting of William “Crisis” Holt and Kwesi B, they are a production due specializing in deep soul, house, broken beat and hip hop. Also William “Crisis” Holt’s name may look familiar because he is the dope producer (and mentor, yet he may not know it lol) that I worked with on my “Chameleon EP“. Didn’t know the South had so much Euro Soul huh? lol.
“The Beautiful Life” has remixes from Nicolay, Mark de Clive-Lowe, as well as a dope remix from “Crisis” himself. This album is to dope to not be heard! It is available atItunes, Amazon, and all other major online stores. Here goes a taste of what you will hear…
I was so excited when I heard Sade was coming back on the scene next month with her full length album “Soldier of Love”. I can’t wait! And when I woke up this morning first thing online I saw was a link to see the new video for that single. Its dope! You can click HERE or on the photo above to view it…. GO SADE!!
It seems that I might have strayed away from the genre called “R&B” a little bit in the past few years. I mean the “stuff” (for the lack of a better word) that is on the radio has definitely been a help in me wanting to hear other genres of music. The “R. Kelly-s” of the world seem to have taken over with over sexed, lack of content, female exploited lyrics and I just gave up. Well as simple as some of the one word titles on Jesse Boykins’ III album “The Beauty Created” are, the content is not. He makes a girl feel beautiful in his music and this video is just as lovely. Me thinks I like “R&B” again…..
Now this is a TRIBUTE! And from none other thanGeorgia Anne Muldrow, it’s so dope what she speaks in this track. As I am still to this day speechless about his passing, the single “The King’s Ballad” gives the words that most like me need to explain how important of an influence Michael Jackson was to us in so many ways. This album will be available in February 2010, and can now be pre-ordered on UbiquityRecords.com.
I remember when I heard “No More” from J*DAVEY off their Myspace page back in 2006. I was hooked. It was like Erykah Badu and Prince had a baby. Then that baby met the Eurythmics baby, and they did it. Ok, I know that was a crazy metaphor, but you get what I’m saying LOL. The music was a nu-wave, funk, soul-spectacular. You liked that huh? Well throughout the past 4 plus years they released “The Beauty in Distortion/ The Land of the Lost” double disc and had dope collaborations from 4HERO to 88-Keys. So how sweet is it that they give us some more of that funky stuff during the Holiday Season?! Rest your ears here, won’t you?
This year was a gem in the music chapter of my life. So many artists came back to the scene with real music that you actually wanted to play from beginning to end, the others were new comers , bringing fresh sounds. I am so excited about 2010 bringing even more to the world musically. I may enjoy turning on the radio again with all the indie artists starting to get air play and the mainstream making original dope music. Well here are my top 10 (make that 11, it just had to be added) in no particular order. And just in case you wanted to know which tracks caught the most iTunes plays from me… I created a playlist… Isn’t that special??!!
